How we research, write, and maintain content on QuickDivorceCalc.com.

By Brad Burton, Founder & Editor ·Updated June 2026

QuickDivorceCalc.com is an independent research and education site covering divorce costs, asset division, spousal support, and related family law financial topics. This page describes how we produce and maintain content.

Who Writes Our Content

All content on QuickDivorceCalc.com is written or reviewed by Brad Burton, the site's founder and editor. Brad is not a licensed attorney. Content on this site is research-based editorial guidance, not legal advice. Every article includes a disclosure at the bottom noting this distinction.

Sources We Use

We draw on publicly available data including state court filing fee schedules, attorney rate surveys published by the American Bar Association and state bar associations, published academic research on divorce costs and outcomes, IRS guidance on tax treatment of divorce-related transfers, and QDRO guidance from the Department of Labor. We do not rely on estimates from law firms or legal service providers who would benefit from overstating costs.

How We Handle YMYL Content

Divorce is a financial and legal topic that directly affects people's lives and money. We take this seriously. We do not fabricate specific legal rules or present state-specific procedures as universal standards. All cost figures are presented as estimates or ranges, not guarantees. We recommend consulting a licensed family law attorney before making any legal or financial decisions related to divorce.

Accuracy and Updates

Content is reviewed and updated when we identify material changes — for example, shifts in filing fees, changes to federal tax law (such as the 2017 TCJA changes to alimony deductibility), or new IRS or DOL guidance on retirement account division. Each article displays an "Updated" date in the byline. If you spot an error or outdated figure, contact us at brad@quickdivorcecalc.com.

How This Site Makes Money

QuickDivorceCalc.com is supported by Google AdSense display advertising. Ads are served automatically by Google — we do not control which specific ads appear and receive no payments from law firms, legal service companies, or anyone else in exchange for editorial content or recommendations. AdSense revenue does not influence what we write.

Independence

We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or editorial arrangements with attorneys, legal service companies, or financial advisors. We do not sell leads. The content on this site exists to provide honest, research-based information to people going through a divorce — not to steer them toward any particular attorney, service, or outcome.
